To be honest, Lavateras can be pruned now and they won't suffer any problems. I leave stuff like Hydrangeas, Guara and Fuchsias until the end of March at the earliest....the dead top growth gives a little frost protection to the growth below

depends very much where you live....up here in Scotland not 'till end of March at the earliest....
