I've got an old Triton T80 shower that I want to replace, but can't see anywhere how many kw it is. Does anyone know? Do I have to replace it with the same?

I actually have one and seem to remember that they came in two different power ratings but am not certain. I had it for several years before installing it and can still see the box before me reminding me of a pending job - but I can't quite read the rating ! But I do know it is not as high a rating as modern ones and I think I would be right in saying it is 5kW. Almost certainly there is a label under the cover or else on the back of the enclosure. The microswitches in mine kept going and it hasn't been used for quite a long time now - it's in a spare bathroom. Did you have the same problem ? If you are wondering for the sake of replacing like-for-like, I suggest you concentrate on the cable size feeding it and the fuse/circuit breaker serving it. Unless that limits you below the modern more power hungry ones (typically 7-8kW) then you have a free choice.

I am surprised that there are no clues on your old shower as to the model you have.

You could also go onto www.ask.co.uk and pose the question as to where you can find triton electric showers or even find the Triton manufacturing site.

As long as the cable is a 6mm twin and earth you can put any shower up to 8.5 kw you would then have to put a slightly bigger fuse or circuit breaker,it should be 40 amp, the main thing to consider is that the connections are the same,if you have to start altering plumbing or electrics thats when the costs mount up.
