This is mainly for those who have reservations about the death penalty, although anyone who wants can answer if you so wish. Are there any circumstances in which you might advocate it?.

spacechimp, your still young, people and their views change as they grow older, yours probably will, its called life experience.

Philby I understand what you are getting at but I did say mass murders in the light that there was no discretion. Have you never made a mistake in your life ?
spacechimp, If you start off with one opinion and then no matter what you see or hear your whole life you are not flexible enough to examine the possibility that you are wrong then that's what's called being a dogmatic, ignorant prat.I am anti death penalty myself as I do not believe that judicial murder is any different to common murder and that all peoples lives must be considered sacrosanct otherwise we merely diminish the value of life still further and exaccerabate the problem.
No, although there are times when I wish I could execute someone personally... But really, no, I would never ever advocate it.
Hard@it, yes you did say mass murders and believe me the pharmacy industry is respnosible for far more deaths than so called illegal drugs, it is just the media do not find it 'sensational' enough to report it.

Bring it back... i for one would be happy to put a rope around someones neck and pull on the lever. too many do gooders in this country for my liking.

its just ten years since the MASSACRE at DUNBLANE, had that ar$e hole not killed himself we the tax payers would be paying to keep it alive ! but obviously some people would rather a mass murderer of innocent children, be fed and watered, given top medical treatment and get tucked in his nice warm cozy bed each night.

there are obviously exemptions, but not many...

kill the killers, no matter what they plead in court.

if you saw your mother being gang raped and being beaten to death, having her eyes pushed out with someones thumb, gettin a swift shaftin in the a$$ with a broken bottle, im sure you would only want the offenders to do a few years in jail....

that is a "worst case situation" but that sort of $hit goes on in this world..

Noxlumos, I wasn't saying that you shouldn't change your opinions; I was saying that if you change your opinion of something only when it begins to affect you, then you are a pig.

Funkymoped, aside from the fact that my mother is already dead...I would want the offenders to spend the rest of their lives in jail. I would also want them to receive psychiatric help.

Point accepted Phily, cheers Hard@it

spacechimp some people are very narrow and lacking understanding of lots of things until it affects them. Only the most cerebral of us have opinions on absolutely everything because often things are out of our sphere of understanding because they have simply never occured to us or crossed our path. Those people are not pigs, they are normal human beings.

Your point about people who behave in the way funky moped suggests needing psychiatric help is valid to a point, however not everyone who commits crimes like that are mad, some are simply bad. There are a great many evil men in the world, not all of them in need of psychiatric help but generally I agree with what you say.

wasnt getting personal mate, just putting a worst case as a reason for the death sentence.

but i do personaly know a girl that was severley raped and beaten by two blokes.

to this day, i think they should be dead. no if`s, no but`s just dead.

agian if you took what i was saying as personal i can only appolagise. "sorry"

Noxlumos, this is not a case of having no opinion on the matter of capital punishment until it affects you; this is a case of having an opinion and changing it purely when it affects you - that, in my opinion is piggish. For example, saying "I think thieves are wonderful people who should be praised" until, one day your house is broken into and your opinion becomes "death to thieves, cut off thieves' hands".

Funkymoped, I did not take it personally in the slightest.

Personally I think that if a person kills another person for no reason what so ever, and if its proved that that person is totally guilty through DNA, etc, then surely they should face the death penalty, after all what use would they be on the streets, some people set out to kill another person for the sake of it, its not like a fight, where a person could take a nasty fall and die, some people just are pure evil, just my opinion though.
