Hello AB'ers,

Not used this for ages but sure someone can help:- For about 3/4 weeks I've been having a problem with Hotmail/Live mail.
Can sign in ok but can only read/send email about once in every 6 to 8 visits. When it's not working correctly I can't sign out. Everything works ok on a computer at work though.
This cropped up about 10 days after I started using a new laptop though never had this problem before ( apart from the changeover to Outlook ).
Using IE 11 and Windows 8.1
Thanks.

To help us to understand your question better, do you access your mail via your web browser (IE11) or do you use the mail app that comes with Windows 8.1?

If you're using the mail app simply deleting the account and then creating it again is likely to fix your problem (or, of course, you could switch to logging into the website instead).

If you're going via your web browser then switching to a decent browser might help:

Apologies for belated response.
I did "mess around" with mail app a week or so after buying laptop and finding way round..........that might be problem. Had a couple unusual activity notices....but couldn't use code as I couldn't read emails !! Still only works occasionally using IE 11 going via web log in.
Tried Mozilla once before but had major issues with it.
Used Microsoft support but was sent around in ever decreasing circles and ended up with help link where I originally started :(. Will try setting up a new Live account and see what transpires.
Many thanks.
If you really get stuck, try switching to a decent email service. (Hotmail has always been a bit of a joke. I gave up on it, after finding several accounts inaccessible over a period of time, well over a decade ago). GMX is great:

(Simply configure the 'Mail Collector' to forward mail sent to your Hotmail address to your GMX one)

Hiya,
I have used GMX for several years and it does usually perform well, it will be my main one from now on. Use mail collector too , but after a fixed time Hotmail /Live mail stop "supporting it" according to GMX........!
Thank you.
