Has anyone been to Rome in July ? I went once in mid June and it was extremely hot BUT they were having freak weather ...... I have seen the charts for July and it didn't look too hot but wanted to check with those who have actually been at this time of year please. TIA

Yes...I have. You are right...it will be very hot but more importantly, terribly crowded. I would avoid visiting Rome in the high summer if possible, unless you relish the thought of looking at all those marvelous sights over the heads of about 1 million groups of schoolkids. If you do decide to go, get timed tickets for the honeypots sights, such as the Colosseum, Vatican, etc.

Been there 9 times in various months...July is very hot..personally I prefer end of Sept, even early Oct...we found it still very hot then, but more comfortable...Rome had very wet weather last year for most of the summer months, tourist numbers were noticeably down..hopefully will be better for them this year!...it's an amazing beautiful place, whatever the weather.
I would avoid Rome in July like the plague if I were you ! It will indeed be horribly hot and very crowded. Go in May, June or in September.
