My husband is really suffering, some one suggested putting something cold on the painful part in stead of the hot water bottle he is using at the moment, can anyone help, Doctor just prescribed paracetamol

He needs to find out the cause of the pain and should go to a good chiropractor as GP's are useless with back pain. I wasted 2 years with chronic back pain being told to 'rest' . I went to a chiropractor who gave me exercises to strengthen my core muscles and acupuncture.-touch wood been ok now for over 8 years.
Doesn't matter a "jot" whether you use a hot water bottle or a frozen bag of peas to apply to his back....whichever is more "reassuring."
I agree that ibuprofen is the drug of choice, but there may well be a reason for your GP steering clear of it.
