Anyone Live In London...advice On Living There Needed Please.
16 Answers
i can get work in london, hounslow or city centre, in construction trade. i will be bringing my car for travel though im weighing up the costs, will a car be necessary ? i will mostly work in city but my digs will be around outskirts of city where they are not too expensive, i need a room 120 pounds per week so hopefully i can get somewhere decent for that price. i like a beer in local at weekend to unwind , i am not a big eater .
is london really that expensive ? i need some advice from anyone who has lived and worked there recently.
i lived in neasdon years ago in early 90,s but it was not overly expensive for drink or a takeaway like fish n chips etc.

i could get digs ( room ) hounslow 30 a night. gumtree has double rooms on there for 600pcm. if im in london long term i will find a long term let from 550 - 600 per month.
i could maybe be moving around sites, should i bring my car. just looked on google maps car from hounslow to kensington central 28 mins in car. so fuel will be very little. though on tubes return same way it would be costly ? and just as long if not longer journey time .

Do not take the car, you will never be able to park and even if you do you'll need to factor in the cost of fuel, parking and congestion charge. Get an oyster card and hop the the trains, no contest.
Once you've found a room, living is not much more than elsewhere. There's always a supermarket close by - just don't eat or drink out too often and you'll manage OK.

parking's expensive and beware the congestion zone, £11.50 a day. If you can take the tube or London overground, do: they're almost always going to be quicker and cheaper than driving. Food's still affordable in the suburbs if you don't want anything fancy. But everything's that bit mroe expensive in London than elsewhere.
all of the hounslow stations are in travel zone 5; from there to kensington (zone 1) will cost you £4.70 per single journey using a contactless debit card, with a daily cap of £10.90. a 7-day travel card is only worth the expense if you use it for more than just a 5 day a week there and back commute.
My eldest son had digs in London while working on the Olympic Stadium -he paid £90 a week for a room and shared the house with with 3 other guys and a landlady -no food but could use the kitchen facilities. It was in the Stratford Area he's coming for lunch today I can ask him for an address or contact number if you like.
