I am not interested in discussing a book (or books) I haven't read - I am interested in your perceived position that you are able to comment with authority on what you have read - and where you believe that authority comes from.
My point is - you have your views on religion, as I have mine - but neither are restricted to simply one or more religious books, and the ability to debate religion does not depend entirely on having read the books which are followed by observers.

Naomi - //andy-hughes, Having read the books I am at the very least informed which is rather more than you can claim. //
That carries the (somewhat lofty) assumption that you have understood everything you have read - and I have no assurance that this is the case - so really, that carries no weight at all.
I have read the instructions regarding connecting my radio headphones to my television set - but I am still having a man to come and connect them for me!
Reading does not mean understanding - I think you probably know that.

And I expect you intend to have an interminable argument with him about how to do it. Poor man. //
Something wrong with your expecter then!
If someone wants to come round and complete a job for which he is trained, and from which he makes a living, I will watch with interest.
That is not the same as debating on here with some individuals who set themselves up as pseudo-experts on the somewhat flimsy premise that they happen to have read a book or two!

Naomi - //andy-hughes, And failing to read it means understanding even less – in fact nothing at all. //
And therein lies the difference between us - I don't claim to understand the finer points of religious doctrine - and certainly would not do on the basis that I had read a book.
If that were true, I could read a book about assembling jet engines, and then demand a job at Rolls Royce!

andy-hughes, I’m not setting myself up as a ‘pseudo’-expert - and I don’t claim to understand the finer points of religious doctrine simply on the basis that I’ve read a book. That’s all down to your imagination. With that bee you have in your bonnet about my CV strange that you so readily accepted my answer to your question about the intricacies of a JW’s posts. Why, you even thanked me!
