Nice Flowers For Window Box, Advise Please

im currently making my wifes garden for her, i have not the first idea about flowers or anything, i want to buy her some nice plant boxes for around the garden and windows. i need some ideas and advice about what kind of seeds i can buy now to make a nice colourfull display .
i see lots of flowers / seeds on ebay so can anyone point me in right direction please.
i went to B&Q yesterday and bought her lots of herbs mint,parsley,peppers, chilli plants for a planter. anything else what i could add to this ?

You should see some nice looking Heucera (caral bells) at this time of the year, they are grown mostly for their colourful foliage, although they do also flower.
these make a nice centre piece for tubs and planters and can be planted in garden, perennial borders at the end of the season.
bedding begonias and buzzie lizzie make a good splash of colour, as do geraniums in a sunny spot.
Some trailing plants like lobelia will also look good, you'l probably find some mixed tub and basket, mixed collections that may include these, which can be good value too.
Watch out for frosts that have been forcast in some areas!
