Like a straight male attending a JB concert, or a straight girl attending a Metallica concert.
Because even TV shows make fun of this concept. And plus, knowing that I'm part of the minority makes me feel like an usual human being.
And it's not because I'm worried about what others think of me, it's knowing that I'm are doing something unusual , and it makes me feel uneasy. There's a difference between saying "God, what is everyone else is gonna think of me?" & "Dang it! This does not appeal to me, why do I like it?"
So is it really weird to attend? (And please don't delete post)
to the concert!! yes it does mean it's not weird. i'm getting so feed up of people feeling weird, or stupid or different because of people putting them down. i'm sure the people that put labels on everyone aren't happy, and there stupid insults just drive everyone else down and then we just end up living in a world full of upset and hurt.
@Gavmacp Figures, because gender norms are more restrictive here in the U.S! I think my perception resembles to this post from MEMicster1:http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Music/Question1414051.html
If a product attracts more people from that gender (like 70% of that gender with 30% being the minority), isn't it the same as saying it is for that gender?
Must go to bed!
Over here we had a DJ called John Peel who was cutting edge/alternative, lots of my friends followed him like he was a god. Anyway he died suddenly and they found a box of his favourite music and in it there was a single by a lady called Sheena Easton who was to be quite frank a bit naff. But he liked her and that single, not quite cool for the audiance he attracted but it made me smile. Sometimes you just like something whether it is cool, naff or just rubbish you like it.
Re-reading your post you talk about 'a product' this is music not a product! I have a varied taste in music and culture. If I like something that has been produced for the elite should I not like it? If it touches my soul I will like it whether this product as you say was produced for me or my gender. There is a lot of things I don't understand or get but I am interested in, not because they will make me look intellectually superior or whatever but because I am and have always been curious. Should I not listen as I am intellectually inferior?
@Gavmacp //If it touches my soul I will like it whether this product as you say was produced for me or my gender.//
My point is liking a product that was produced to your opposite gender! What would you feel about liking a product that appeals to the opposite gender?
If you are a guy, then how would you feel if you liked Barbie dolls, Disney Princess movies, boy bands, etc.?
