Lack Of Lilac Blooms

I'm a little bit disappointed this year as I have hardly any blooms on my lilac tree - last year it was covered but they did not last too long

Most trees and shrubs seem to have blossomed well this year, especially apple and cherries.
I'm wondering if your lilac is becoming over crowded or over shaded, as they do like an open position, especially if they can get a few hours sun in the afternoon.

Sad for you, they are out in full force here in sth Germany, also the Hawthorn is just out and smells fantastic.

I have a dwarf lilac about 4 ft tall... really full of blossom this year... it hasnt been like this for years...also a lot of blossom on all the trees around ..x

Well ric.ror, mine's just like yours, full of greenery but showing only about 5 blooms. Its a deep purple lilac and its very obvious that thereare no blooms still to come. The mauve one is fine and the white one is yet to flower.

Nothing has changed in the garden and all other trees and shrubs have plenty of blossom. Its a mystery and was just about to be the subject of my next post!

The lilac in next door's garden is just starting to flower although the flowers look smaller and darker.
