Bamboo Screen
8 Answers
I need to provide a visual screen between my patio and my neighbours garden. The screen needs to be about 2 metres wide and 2.5/3 metres high. My thoughts are to grow bamboos in two 1 metre troughs, placed end to end. Is my idea feasible and if yes what types of bamboo would do the job. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Your bamboo screen idea looks feasible to me, and keeping the roots contained is also a good idea, as the roots can be very invasive. I would go for troughs that are fairly deep, about a foot would be ideal. Provide some gravel in the bottoms for good drainage, then infill with a general purpose compost. Use a slow release pelleted fertilizer every six months....

suitable species might be : Arundinaria bashrinia or Bambusa chusquea, plus several more you might consider.
