I'm having an endoscopy next week, I'm hoping to do it without sedation, has anyone had an endoscopy without sedation and how did it go? my only worry is I will suddenly panic and try to rip the scope out of my throat during the procedure. any advice?

I have had it without sedation, because I was on my own. No problem at all. Nurse held my hand which was a nice bonus!

To clarify mine was a Gastroscopy
What's the difference between a Gastroscopy and an Endoscopy ?
One goes down and one goes up
None........sticking a camera down any orifice can be described as an endoscopy...

hence..gatroscopy is an endoscopy, colonoscopy is an endoscopy, bronchoscopy is an endoscopy.

Endoscopy is a term usually used for a gastroscopy or colonoscopy.
Gastroscopy is down and Colonoscopy goes up

Endoscopy means the camera used I believe
I am enlightened. Thanks guys.
Just asked Sgt Troy what it was like for him, without sedation, + he said fine, no probs,....was in + out in a flash

## greedyfly, I have had one with sedation and in all honesty I am glad I did as I did wake up during and it was not a pleasant experience at all. ##

I had sedation, but didnt go to sleep, it just made me feel like I was on cloud 9, and didnt give a feck.
