If you press the agents they will be able to offer shorter terms. there are other rental agreements as well as SATs available. Generally the months deposit, and rental process requirements suit a 6 month minimum arrangement, but have a look at : http://www.email4property.co.uk/greenock/estate-agents.htm which has some of the local agents and just call and discuss what you need or see the ARLA site and just press the agents to get what you want and don't be passed off as requesting something that is not possible.
You could try an ad in the local paper as well to ask for a let, but as you are coming to the summer period, some of the short lets will go for more lucrative holiday terms.
