Well I never - tried my radio on my car tonight when leaving sister home -= took out ignition keys - and switched on radio - couldnt believe it started playing.

I am driving over 30 years and I never would have done that in all that time.

But, can you tell me doing this way ie taking ignition keys out - would radio run the battery down. Thanks for this information. Great stuff!!

Yes it will run the battery down, jj.

ok thanks Tony - would only have it on for a few minutes - but that is good to know.
The radio would have to be on for hours and hours to have much effect on your battery...and even more hours after that!

On all 3 of our cars, if you use the radio with ignition turned off, the radios switch off after approx. 20 / 25 minutes
Can't understand the heading....Ummmm?

it was Ummmm who told me about this.
It'll only run your battery down if maybe you left the radio on overnight. Sometimes not even then. Your battery charges as you drive.
Neither mine or my OH's car radios will play without the keys in and ignition on. It depends on the car and how it's wired up.
Neither will mine, Prudie, well not until I turn the key to position 1.
