My Dianthus plants in the rockery are looking very leggy , there are brown stems about 6 inches long with growth and flower stems at the ends, some of the leaves are brown also. Should I have trimmed them back last year (I didn't) when and how far do I trim to re-juvenate them, Sorry have long since lost the identification labels. Thanks.

Yep, just cut them right back and make sure they get some water

If they're leggy, it may also be worth checking on the positioning, full sun is when they grow best.
