I went into hospital last Sunday having eaten last Sat afternoon. I went in at 66kg
after seven days in hospital I had eaten a grand total of (all hospital food) two jellys, one cup of bovril and half an inch of leek and potato soup.
I spent the vast majority of the time either in bed or sitting in the chair so not much on the aerobics front lol
Why when I left yesterday was I 68kg?

Yes.......you were discharged heavier than you weight on admission because in that week you were given more calories than you used, being inactive for a week.
The operation that you described would involve the intravenous (drip) administration of dextrose saline and it was that which increased your calorie intake and increase in weight.
