Working Tax Credit Question . Advice Please

im asking this for ex wife, we are seperated, she is a thai national. here goes. she is currently living in uk, has 3 children 2 x 15 yr old twin boys and 1 x 6 yr old girl.

she is currently in reciept of child tax credit, child benefit and incomesupport/jsa

she has been offered a few days work per week in a thai resturaunt .

here are the questions:

1. is she better off working ? she wants to work ( she is not a dole scrounger ) but it has to be worth her while ( off course )
2. how many hours is best she works per week ?

To get working tax credit (which will pay more than she is on now) she has to work 24 hours a week, if she works less she is better off on benefits .
ummmm lol! nothing really bad but it was 'off topic' and probably very judgmental.
Ummmm I think it is 24 hours a week now not 16, it has been increased.
In the case of a couple the 24 hours can be split between them.
Eddie...she's a single parent. Someone from HMRC has just messaged me with the answer. She's an ex user that looks in now and then. Argue all you want.
"Can you tell Eddie - its 30 hours if they are in a joint claim and 16 if you are a single parent - 24 does not come into it"

If you are single with at least one or more children you must work at least 16 hours a week

The 24 doesn't come into it because she's a single parent.
