I have a lovely Chinese paper one I might use tomorrow

I remember as a child we had those chinese ones, they had a heavy green paint on and smelt really funny. Anyone know what I mean?

No prudie it's going to take some nerve but it's my life so I intend to do as I please and I don't want the sun on me
My parasol is white and very delicately painted (thank you eBay)

I have one that I bought in China ten years ago. It is excellent for keeping the sun off as it's flat and wide and gives a lot of shade. I always take it on holiday but I have not used it at home. That's because I don't go out in the sun at home, if I can possibly avoid it.

In Europe, a lot of ladies have those pretty, lacy white ones but they are useless. The sun gets through the holes.

In Victorian times "ladies" were meant to be pale...nowadays you have to be a horrible ochre to be really fashionable!

I use one frequently in the summer. It has saved me going pink many a time. They seem to be getting more popular every year.

Go for it but, as an aside, you can't have anything but a sun parasol, it means 'against the sun'

I think they look really lovely, elegant, but I always forget my umbrella when it rains, so won't buy a parasol as it'll get forgotten and sit in a corner like my umbrella unfortunately.

I've just looked it up
I choose to use 'sun' to differentiate from a parasol for a pram or buggy or even the garden parasol used to shade garden tables etc

You only needed to put parasol. The 'sol' bit means sun.
