Without them there wouldn't be so much opportunity for evolution. Most mutations have no effect, while some lead to advantages and some cause disease, particularly if the offspring receive a copy of the mutation from both parents.//

Had Adam & Eve not rebelled against God they were promised everlasting life. But they chose to go their own way, so God kept his word when he told them that they would die. They died and so does all of mankind. Even scientists concede that the human body could go on and on, but for some reason it reaches a certain point and stops. They are still investigating the reason why. There are many persons who live to well over 100 yrs so it does not have anything whatsoever to do with evolution.
