Swarms Of Tiny Flying Beetles

Every time I go out into the garden they descend upon me in hordes and I have to come in again. They're everywhere! Horrible! Is anyone else plagued with them and is there a deterrent?

Yes, naomi...ONE on my shirt this morning....I think that they are pollen beetles.

gingejbee, that could be it! Thank you. I do live in the country so I'm used to bugs etc., but I've never known anything like this. They're everywhere - and according to this they'll be around throughout August too. :o(

we get cockchafer nights here, not so often but they are really horrible.

Pollen beetles are apparently attracted to the colour yellow, so its best to avoid wearing anything this colour.
Homer Simpson gets pestered by them every summer ;-)

I know exactly what you mean Naomi. We call them rape beetles, 'cos thats what they seem to like best. Had loads of them in the cab of the truck today, but I pity the poor blokes working on site in hi vis...they were covered in them!

pollen beetles they come of the rape and as that has finished flowering they come to the gardens. what ever you do dont wear yellow you will be covered

I wore a yellow top yesterday. I swear they thought I was a daffodil! They like white too. The towels on the washing line were covered in them.

We call them corn lice, they get really bad end of July for a few weeks, we live next to fields, some years are worse than others, really annoying, they get everywhere including inside computer screens.
