Recently my 3 yr old neutered tom has been digging holes as if going for a poo then just sitting over them.... ok this is gross.... he's not straining or anything and just sits there watching what's going on around him, then he gets up digs another hole and sits again.

I am taking him to the vets next week for his jabs and will ask then anyway, plus keep an eye on him between now and then in case he gets poorly. Other than this weird behaviour he seems fine and is eating and drinking normally. Anyone any ideas?

Tell the vet what is going on maybe he'll do a urinalysis, and find out if he has a UTI or crystal blockage. Good luck.
Oh forgot to add if your not going till next week I would call the vet and tell them what he's doing, if he's trying to urinate and can't the build up on his sytem will not be good...call now and see what the vet says...he may be having a blockage or some kind of constipation if it's only when he poops not pees....

As drgnrdr said he could have a UTI. Mine kept doing that and when he went to the Vet it turned out he had cystitis. He had to have a catheter to drain of the buildup in his bladder and was kept in for a few days. I would take him to the vet asap.
