....have curry houses gone up in quality in the last 15 years? In fact it seems that in general, the standard of curry has gone up in the UK - Vesta, and pooey supermarket jars of horrible curry sauce are replaced by Pataks and other (try East End varieties if you have a Morrisons nearby!) examples. Certainly i remember in my student years, that getting an authentic curry was nigh on impossible, being passed off with a chicken stew with loadsa curry powder, loadsa chilli, and naff all taste. Nowadays you find that most takeaways produce pretty much the genuine thing. What say everyone else?

Curries are the best thing since sliced bread, hot on the way in and hot on the way out, even the curry house near me has got better, even tho my cats keep disappearing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that curries have definitely improved in quality, although most Indian people I know wouldn't consider most restaurant curry to be very authentic when compared to the real thing eaten on the subcontinent. Things like boneless chicken, onion bhajis and even the good old chicken tikka masala were all adapted for us fussy westerners. I also think that the behaviour of many sit in diners in Indian restaurants has improved considerably over the past 15 years. Happily I rarely hear the shouts of "Oi, Gungadin" etc from ratted hard lads trying to impress themselves with their ready wit.
