Jehovah's Witnesses And Illegitimacy And Adoption
34 Answers
I am helping my friend trace her birth mother (she was put up for adoption on birth 44 years ago - her mother being a 17 year old unmarried mother). Between our various researches we have established that her mother is now a member of the JWs. We think that she married a man who is quite senior in the JWs. Certainly her family history is NOT JW so we think she has converted later.
Can anyone give any information as to how the JWs might view an illegitimate daughter turning up 44 years later? Is it likely to have an adverse effect on the birth mother's membership of the church?
Any info would be helpful please. (And please no rants/sermons about the JWS).

// since Jehovah’s Witnesses are actively discouraged from associating with people, including family, who are not members of the church I have serious doubts that she will be welcomed by her mother. // Utter rubbish. They are a christian organisation . There might be problems for both parties if they were to meet, but the JWs would not be a source of...

Sir Alec@ Are you not referring to the Brethren? It sounds like them to me. There is a street where there are a lot of Brethren. They do not speak to outsiders, their children go to a seperate school, they are in the main, quite wealthy. I know lots of JWs and they do not drink to excess, in fact, many refrain from alcoholic drink. I have been to a number of their "parties" and although there is wine many prefer to drink just soft drinks.
With regard to their dress, yes some of the women may wear longish skirts, but I have seen a lot of the girls, especially in recreation, wearing jeans and short skirts.
I have neighbours who are JWs, and they always speak to us. In fact they have even invited us in for coffee. They are always very helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

idiosyncrasy, //I know of a Muslim girl who was beaten almost to death by her family because she was courting a non muslim. I also know of Indian girls being murdered because they chose to not go along with their family with regard to religion , marriage, etc.//
I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to demonstrate here. The stupidity of one religion doesn't preclude, or negate, the stupidity of the rest.

Naomi@ The point I am making is that you cannot single out JWs becauses they do not (or supposedly) do not associate with people outside their organisation. At least they do not go to the extreme and literally cut off (kill/murder/whatever you like to call it) rebellious or wayward members. At least these ones have the opportunity of getting back with their family etc. Unlike those that are no longer living.
Naomi @ Because we follow Bible principles, Jehovah’s people, individually and collectively, are an asset in the communities in which we live.
The public activities of Jehovah’s Witnesses involve more than our well-known house-to-house preaching work. When professional individuals and organizations become familiar with our fine works, they are more likely to have a positive attitude when they are contacted in the field ministry.
But some people who oppose our work and will stop at nothing to besmirch the reputation of Jehovah’s people and to hinder our efforts to let the light shine.

Well according one United Nations report, more people now die from contaminated and polluted water than from all forms of violence including wars.
Every 20 seconds, a child under the age of five dies.
If the world is to thrive, . . . we need to get collectively smarter and more intelligent about how we manage our life.
The apostle Paul wrote: “Let us work what is good toward all, but especially toward those related to us in the faith.” (Galatians 6:10) As Christians, we have an obligation to show love for those who are related to us in the faith—our spiritual brothers and sisters.
How important is this love? Making this powerful point, the apostle John wrote: “Everyone who hates his brother is a manslayer . . . If anyone makes the statement: ‘I love God,’ and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot be loving God, whom he has not seen.” (1 John 3:15; 4:20)
Yes Naomi these are strong words. Jesus Christ applied the words “manslayer” and “liar” (John 8:44).and yet it not difficult to love our neighbors collectively,
There is abundant evidence to show that this description fits Jehovah’s Witnesses, collectively, better than it does any other religious organization.

Naoim did you not know speaking the truth brings happiness. It frees truth lovers from bitterness, faultfinding and envy.
People everywhere in the world see the happiness of the united New World society of Jehovah’s witnesses, who have reason to be happy because they know where they are going and what the future holds for them.
Jesus’ instructions, true Christians today continue to speak to their neighbors about God’s Kingdom—the only government capable of bringing an end to Satan’s wicked system and ushering in a righteous new world.

//Goodlife, I'll ask again. Tell us what they [Jehovah's Witnesses] do that is such an asset to the communities in which they live.//
As a community service one can rest assured in the knowledge that their door knocker is fully operational whenever Jehovah's Witnesses are canvassing the neighbourhood.
