mobile phone not charging

My son has an orange spv c500 mobile phone. Since christmas we misplaced the charger and eventually the other day I bought him a new charger. However although all the lights on charger and phone come on, all the phone does is load the home screen and turn itself off. We have left it on charge for 24hours but no change. Could it be that the battery isn't working after not being used for so long? I don't want to spend out on a replacement battery if that isn't the problem. I would be very grateful for any help and suggestions, many thanks

Definatly a faulty phone, maybe the battery is old or has lost its power and cannot hold energy anymore. Either that or your charger is not getting the power through. I suggest taking it into the shop you bought it from and asking them to check it for you. Remember your recipt
