Do You Miss Facebook?

This is just for those who have spent time with the FB habit. About a week ago, for personal reasons mostly to do with workload, I deactivated my FB account. The blatantly obvious benefit has been 6 cryptic puzzles set in 6 days, which is a couple better than I’d usually manage.
However, because my FB timeline tended to be very active there’s a part of me that’s beginning to miss the back-and-forth – I suppose, more than that, just the knowledge of what friends and family are up to. So far I’m managing to stand firm, but has anyone here deactivated only to find that, not long after, you struggle to resist the temptation to jump back in?

PS: This is based on the idea that your decision to deactivate was entirely for positive reasons rather than - as can happen - some nastiness going on.

I don't miss it because once I joined, I chickened out and deactivated it. I could see that it might take over my life.

I spend enough time on AB!
Im' thinking of deactivating my personal account due to privacy issues -but everyone I know seems to use FB instead of email for invitation events and even business events . I'm certainly not posting any more photos and deleting all family ones as you really have no control where they can end up, even if you are tight on security one of your 'friends' may not be so.

Funny thing about AB, Tilly, is that I spend more time here (at least on an open tab) than I did on FB. My contribution in terms of answering questions is scant because I’m not as knowledgeable as a crossworder probably should be, but I do like to see the comments of others. Because these are often more expansive than FB comments I get more of a feel for peoples’ personalities and, be they good or bad, they still feel more familiar. Do I have friends on AB? Probably not, but I’d say there are more people on here I ‘like’ than comment(er)s I’d ‘like’ on FB.
I have very mixed feelings about FB. I use it solely to keep in touch with a few friends and family, none of whome live closer than a five hour drive. I notice some are constantly at it, including that really daft thing of posting live and announcing where they're holidaying (ie 'come round and burgle my house now').
I utterly and totally refuse to use it for work-related purposes. I find its loading and scrolling frustrating beyond words and I'm sure I'm not alone in this. I also think its sad that so many people have confused accumulating 'friends' on FB with the real thing.
Like you Ana I find AB much more satisfying for general banter and helpful interaction.
I havn't deactivated mine so I don't really know. I have been with FB since the launch pretty much and not had a single problem with it. I check FB a few times a day and contribute once or twice a day unless there is an active thread that I am interested in. Pretty much the same as AB really.
Masaic //I find its loading and scrolling frustrating beyond words and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.//

I have no idea what this means as I do not experience it.

I think you need to be a little more selective about who you add as friends on FB if that is your concern, especially if they know where you live.

I am a somewhat reluctant FB user, being bullied into joining by my young nieces ! You have to sift through a lot of crap to find any worthwhile nuggets, and I am not sure if I am going to continue much longer. If I see another photo of some dear little child, sitting by the pool of their "fantastic" hotel in Majorca, I shall scream !
i quite like facebook and think i would miss it too much to switch it off but having said that i'm not on it every day like most people i know,i use it mainly for the different groups i belong to. also i refuse to put it on my phone as i don't need/want to know what friends and family are up to every other minute and they don't need to know what i'm doing,I agree with Mosaic about the loading/scrolling but i think that is down to how many different pages and groups you like/follow.
I often wonder about people's comments on FB, where they live, time & date they are going on holiday, an open invitation for buglers. regards FB, not my cup of tea.
I use Facebook mainly to see photos of the grandsons babies. It's an excellent way to see them gro, videos of the first words, it keeps me amused.

I have real friends not people I hardly know like many do. Plus family members I am close to.

I found a few family I never knew existed for my family tree that were able to send me photos of my parents I hadn't seen before.

What does get to me is the people who post pictures of their dinner and use like an open diary, why!

I deactivated my account for about 6 months up until May of this year,...in fact I started posting in here when I wasn't feeling up to using Facebook..can't explain why.
I love Facebook,...in fact I've just had to ask for help because I can't get on it at the moment, but as I haven't done a reboot, I'm sure that'll be resolved soon ;)

Not one little bit, but then it's hard to miss what you've never had!

6 months!? Blimey, though I was doing well at 7 days.
// Do You Miss Facebook?//

As often as possible!!
I must agree with TWR's last post (see what I did there)
if I came back from holiday to find my house full of buglers, I would be fuming!
Love Facebook. Lots of giggles and interesting to see what friends are up to.
I don't and won't have it.

I'm not impressed with the company - a couple of years ago I happened to be checking one of my emails that I rarely use.

There were a few messages "so and so has dadded you" or words to that effect.

At first I thought spam, but then got one "you've changed your phone number"

That and the fact that there was a welcome from Facebook message and a "one more thing" message made me think not spam!

So I did a password reset request and got in.

Turns out someone in America had the same email as me but with numbers after it - she'd signed up and forgotten to include the numbers.

So, even thought they send a "one more thing" before you start unint your account, they still let you in without doing what they request in that email!

I did not want a Facebook account, so I deactivated the account setup with my email. Sat back and watched password reset requests coming to my email!

There is more to this tale, but I'll not bother you all with it!
@ Talbot.....nice one ;)
