Love England or leave.

Following on from other threads dealing with the question of our safety and security being threatened by some immigrants, should we adopt what a French politician is suggesting : Love France/England or leave.

Personally, I support the view that a lot of immigrants despise our country and all it stands for but love our welfare system.

Hi..i don't think we should make immigants Love England. Many are here to work or are here for other legitimate reasons. But it makes you wonder when you've worked with a Portugues person who said they HATE our country and said he's only here coz we pay better and he gets money off our government. I also worked with an Albanian who came here 10-15 years ago and he said he loves it here but hate all the other people who come here and give him and his family a bad name. Also why do they come straight to England and not go elsewhere? As for 16/18 year olds sitting on the dole (or chavs as they're commonly known) are also spoiling our country. They walk around beating there chests as to how great "Engerrrland" is and how we won the war and beat the germans in the world cup! Come on....move on a bit.

what does love england mean? ... can only British born question the political system or the government? Are only foreign people dangerous or a burden on our benefit system? OF COURSE the answer is NO, don't know what the majority of people are so upset about - though i must admit i haven't read the answers to this post before posting my own so sorry if i am off point.

So what is an immigrant ? I saw a post about the irish but surely as a European you would not be an immigrant in any european country.

There was also a classic when Ken Livingstone was walking about having a go at East Londeners for daring to say they would vote BNP. What have you against the blacks he asked - nothing came the reply its the east europeans. Just shows how out of touch politicians are.

Sp1814, agree with you that most immigrants are good hard working people so why are you against weeking out the shirkers who give give them a bad name. If its 1% as you ascert it should be easy to sort out.

I think this post is turning racist v anti-racist, when it wasn'y meant as such.

I have no problem at all, regardless of race, religeon. creed or colour, of immigrants coming in to this country, so long as they are legal.

I also, have no problem with visitors coming in to work, so long as they are legal.

Illegal immigrants shouldn't be here, they are breaking the law by being here, I really don't care if they are hard workers or not, if they are here illegally, they should be deported.

derekpara is not far wrong when he talks of 'saturation point', because we have to take into account the Green Belt area's, If, Like John Prescott, you want this country built on from Lands End to the Pennines, then we have a long way to go, but if you want to preserve what we have left of the countryside, then we haven't far to go.

I come from a hard-working immigrant family. I know dozens of people who are second generation who come from normal families who have contributed to this country and when I read rubbish like that, it makes my blood boil.

Hi...i think some of the problems stem from the amount of migrant workers we have in the UK. People seem to think there stealing our jobs and sucking up tax payers money. Ok..I'm british an i can say that if you poped down your local Dole office or welfare centre you'll find mainly white british people. Migrants don't come to steal our jobs..they come to fill the spaces that other people (the ones on the dole) don't like. If we sent all the migrate works packing..can you honestly tell me that the people on the dole/wellfare are gonna get up and do there jobs? On the flip side i don't think we should make people "Love" England but i think they should at least "Respect" England and our culture...in the same way we should respect theres.

The thing is, when you talk about migrant, are you talking legal or illegal, Plus,

John Precott, (bless him), has said, there is no limit to the amount of immigrants this country can take. I would beg to differ, but at the present time, I wouldn't know what that limit would be.

I am not against immigration per se but I think the French have it right for once. If you emigrate to another country, you should be prepared to learn its language, respect its customs and traditions and contribute to its general well being. If you're not, don't come. I know many immigrants who I am proud to count among my own circle of acquaintances.

However, what this government has allowed to happen on the immigration front is utterly shameful. There is no control and no competance in the way it has been handled and the local election results for the BNP show only too clearly how ordinary people feel utterly betrayed on this emotive issue.

I think you mean Great Britian, immigarants also reside in scotland and walesand northen ireland our welfare system is british based not just english.

Also how many Immigrants do you know?, how do you know they hate this country ? spoken to any?

Wendy has expressed my opinion perfectly. I know and work with quite a lot of people who have come from here other countries for a better life. No problem with that. How do I know that 'a lot' of immigrants hate England ( or Great Britain) ? Remember the mass of face-covered cowards carrying placards of hate, threatening this country ? Well, it only take one of those to cause a massacre - so that's what I mean by ' a lot.' No, I am not a racist - just someone who hates people who threaten me and my country, no matter what their race or colour.

what sort of dirty fascists are responding to this question? last time i heard that sort of talk it came out of Adolf Hitler's mouth. Through my job i come into contact with hundreds of immigrant workers every day, mostly from Eastern Europe and, without a single exception, they far outwork their British counterparts.

Erm..AlMac, don't call me a dirty fascist ok. This is the sort of thing that gets peoples backs up when it come to these sort of debates. As soon as some one express's an opinion that others may not want to hear or deal with they just shout "Fascist" or "Racist" The thing is these debates and stuff have been around for a long time. I think we need to look back to the 1940's. Remember the Empire Windrush arrived at the Tilbury Docks in London in June 1948. Thats when the UK started receaving large amounts of West Indian, Asian and Caribbean immigrants. There were the same arguments and same hostilities back then as there is now but the difference being that the imergrants at that time seemed to have more respect and acceptance of our culture and in turn our acceptance and respect of them grew. I think there is more at play in these sort of debates than just the general immigrant thing. The July Bombings and the recent protests over those cartoons only help fuel racial tension and divide even thou those things have nothing to do with migrant workers from Europe. The last thing we want is to have a xenophobic country like the US. But after 9/11 who can blame them for being suspicious of foreigners.

I'm Welsh and the idea of a council ordering us to take down a Welsh flag or stop us displaying the dragon wherever we choose is unthinkable and I'm astonished at recent stories of English buildings not being able to fly the flag in case others are offended by it. I'm aware of the racist connotations, but by local authorities regulating the use of the St Georges cross, they are visually confirming this negativity - if a person decides to live in another country for whatever reason - they should do so under that country's laws, traditions and flag. I don't think the people are necessarily to blame in many circumstances but the local authorities.

Good answer..i bet if you went to live in Portugal or Albania or any other country, European or not, i don't think there local governments are going to tell there people to take down there national flags because they might offend you. I bet they'd tell you where to go even if you did tell them that they offend you.

I feel this is a great idea in principle but would sadly never work in reality as many immigrants would arrive waving the flag of St George, claiming to love our country & it's culture & heritage. Then as soon as they are settled in their fully paid for council house, living the life of riley, they would revert back to their true feelings of having no loyalty or alliance to our country & make no effort to intergrate, as far too many immigrants already living here do.

I honestly believe our immigration policy since Tony Blair came to power is an absolute farse! I would like to see all immigration stopped for at least 12 months, in order for us to try & sort out the current mess & deport as many of the undesirables that have illegally made the UK their home in recent times. Then I feel a far stricter immigration policy should be brought in to effect, in line with the likes of Japan & Australia, where all immigrants would be made to have medical checks on entering.

Also, I feel any immigrant who recieves any serious criminal conviction should be deported immediately after serving their prison sentance.
