The reason that Caledonian MacBrayne offers discounts to Blue Card holders (whereas other operators don't) is that CalMac gets £95 million per year in subsidies from the Scottish Government, which insists upon discounts being given to those with mobility problems. All of the UK-Ireland ferry operators have to run a normal commercial service.
