According to the paper today it appears I live in 'Adult Poverty' because I cannot afford an annual holiday or am able to save �10 a month for rainy days. Another indication is not being able to replace worn-out furniture. Before I read this I was quite content thinking I was living within my means. All contributions to be sent to..........;-)!!!!

Hmmm, then I am poor too, so at least you are in good company!! Some things are more important than money, though, like having a good character, strong values, a decent education, etc. My father always said, "Even if people take away every penny and every possession you have, they can never take away your education." That thought not only inspired me to learn as much as possible, it also has provided me emotional comfort for a lifetime!!! Those who have a lot of money can also lose a lot of money... but you and I have nothing to stress-out about, we can't lose what we never had, and we don't have to fear poverty because we already know that we can survive despite it. The rich only live in terror of losing it all. I don't envy them one bit, seriously!!!!

Indeed, money cannot buy you happiness; but at least, when you have plenty of it , you can be dead miserable in comfort !

Hi Buffy - Good to know there's another kindred spirit! In fact I expect we're probably in the majority we just didn't realise, or need, a label attached to our way of living. Quite honestly this is the way my parents lived as well so there's no surprises. It would be nice - of course it would - to have a bit more, but what would terrify me more than anything is if we ever won the Lottery. Now how stupid is that?

Most or all would be given away because as I'm sure Fred's remarks were tongue in cheek my own observations of well off friends and family show that money can tear relationships apart. Your Father's words sums up everything perfectly!

The Government have made a bit of a boobo when it comes to poverty rating. Its all based on a percentage of the national average wage. Can't remember what its all about but essentially it means that there will always be people in this country who are in poverty unless of course we become some sort of communist state and everybody gets equal pay. It always puzzles me how I see young ladies handing over milk tokens to the checkout girl while being weighted down with 17" gold hooping earings, not enough money to buy milk for your baby but some how can afford a �200 pair of earings and a clown to hang round you neck.

Kinda gives a different slant on "He who steals my purse steals trash...." :). However, I believe that there is great satisfaction in leading a good life no matter what your circumstances.
