Setting Up Outlook Express on a new PC

Trying to re attach to my email account on a new pc. When setting up the account I am asked for the incoming name ( which i know ) and then outgoing SMPT name .

How do i find out what my outgoing name ( SMPT ) is? I still have my old pc so i can look on there . Just not sure where to look!

I would appreciate any help

If you go on your old pc, click Tools> Options then Accounts. When that opens, select the account your after then click properties. It should be in there somewhere I think. I might be wrong, but Im sure that's where you can find it.

If not, it will be on your ISP letter that you received when you first got your internet installed. Which ISP are you with? Im with ntl and I know mine in smtp.ntlworld.com so it could be a case of simply changing the ISP name of the one posted above? I not, ring your ISP and find out :)

I've had a lot of trouble with Outlook Express myself. It's certainly not the easiest system there ever was!!!

I've had it for over a year and still can't manage to use it. If it pops up for you to send an email on certain sites, I just copy the address of where it's going and paste it into my ISP email account. It's a lot easier that way!

I thought the smpt address was 'smpt.your ISP.co.uk' but I may be wrong

If you have the incoming name(pop3) which is e.g.:

pop.tiscali.co.uk

your smpt will be similar i.e.:

smpt.tiscali.co.uk

Sorry to split hairs :-) but its SMTP as an outgoing server - there are som servers however that use the same prefix for incoming and outgoing, I use one for example that has mail.nameofisp.com as both, so it may be worth googling the name of your ISP and checking "mail settings" there?

Sorry also meant to say that you find the details of your existing settings in Outloox express by

Tools > Accounts > Properties > Servers

Different ISPs structure their settings slightly differently so rather than guess just type
<name of ISP> outlook express

Failing that search for your isp name along with "pop3" and "SMTP" (not smPT)
or just tell us who your ISP is! ;-)

Thanks for all the anwers :) Putting smtp then the isp works!

Now to find out how much spam is in the spam filter!
