dead heading my plants

is there a practical reason why the dead flowers / leaves on plants need to be removed? LIke do they somehow draingthe root of nutrients or stop new buds forming? Or is it only for aesthetics? I'm not...

Over 30's.

Be honest do you know your weight in Kgs and height in metres/cms without doing calculations. Or if somebody said 30 kilometres away etc etc etc etc. ??? I believe metric came in nearly 40 odd years...
