Problem with "open with" box in Win 7

No problem opening this box but the small box at the bottom is always shaded out-"always use the selected program to open this type of file" and I cannot access it make certain files open...

Complete Novice-I want to get new TV -I have a PVR(2 Tuners). Is it necessary to get a TV with Digital in it or get an ordinary HD ready one without digital. Any help
