Can GP's prescribe for dental/oral problems?

I'm sure I read somewhere fairly recently that gp's can now prescribe for dental/oral problems. Can anyone confirm/refute this? If it's to confirm, do you have a link to the info please?

I use blue reliever inhalers for asthma, but the instructions say 8 puffs per day, I asked my doctor if I could more when necessary and he shrugged his shoulders!
