iPod nano

The only way that i can turn off my ipod nano is to press the menu buton and the select button simultaneously. i.e holding down the play button doesn't work. Any ideas?

Stupid question, BUT, I use hotmail.com for my emails, but occasionally I have to click on an email address as a link and the Outlook email format come up. No problem except when addressing the email...
