Tree with lilac flowers and yellow centre

I have moved house and a tree in our garden has produced a very pretty small lilac/purple flower with a yellow centre but don't know what it is. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be please?...

woodpeckers

do woodpeckers hammer on trees for food or do they do it to call for a mate ? Is it the woodpecker that makes those perfect holes we see in the trees?
