compaq armada laptop hard drive replacement

hi all,i've replaced the old drive of 12gb to a 40gb just done this and the screen is saying "non system disk or disk error strike replace and strike any key when ready" i keep striking key but...

Boarding the loft

Has anyone got any hints/tips for boarding the loft? I am only going to fix a few boards down just to give me better use of the storage space. Nothing too heavy is going up there.
