Phone and data cables - can you shorten them?

Is there a simple guide (and tool(s)) for shortening telephone cables, ie cutting the cable to the right length and fitting the plug back on so the cable will work again?

Laser Printers - What runs out?

Am I right in thinking that the only things that needs replacing on a regular basis in a laser printer is the toner, or is there another comsumable that has to be taken into account when assessing...
