I fully understand that it's the Ed's site and them's the site rules...

..just for clarity though, are there a generally agreed set of standards between various Eds and Mods about what is an acceptable posting and what isn't, and are they - more or less - evenhandedly applied?

for heaven's sake, if people think some posts or some threads should be removed, report them! How's the Ed supposed to know there's rubbish on the site if we don't tell him?
There is another way of look at this, chuck, and I am being serious about this.

There is a growing ground swell of considerable frustration and, in some cases, annoyance about the treatment, rudeness and inequities in treatment, particularly concerning one recent Ed who is thought to be new. This may just start to result in a migration of regular users, and I would put it to you that afternoon contributions from the top 50 users are already down.......Do the analysis and then look at the reasons behind it though, to a lot of us, it is pretty evident already.

Any slide could impact through on to advertising "sell-ability' of the site and the risk of a downward spiral from that.

I would also add that none of us want to see that, certainly not a lot of those in the so-claimed and called extended clique++++. However, this issue needs to be taken very seriously by the AB management team and a better balance restored soonest.
I'm over the moon craft. Wigan won today, I'm not in work until Monday night and it's 56 days (and counting) until my holidays!

Just expressing an opinion, but then isn't everyone else?
There's no such thing as "regular" users. Users come, and users go. Every now and then there'll be a fresh batch of new users who'll suddenly become the new regulars.

I've been here a long time and i've seen it time and time again.

The site won't fall down just because a particular bunch of folks take their bats and balls and go home.

Don't get me wrong, i'd hate for anyone to leave just because they dispute the way the site is run, but the editorial staff wont be held to ransom if they threaten to leave because of it.
I'm not in a position to answer any of your claims, DT, I don't have access to any of the figures you mention.

Though in my experience... people mentioning the word "clique" on here tends to be equal to people stamping their feet and have a little personal tantrum.
And the top 50 users are....?
yup, people come, people go, sometimes they announce it and sometimes they don't, sometimes they go to "rival sites" (that invariably aren't) and sometimes they just get a life. Hasn't stopped AB in its tracks yet.
Yeah, c'mon DT, less of the 'c' word! LOL
It's not being held to ransom B00, that's far too strong and/or splitting hairs....I am sure AB wants to be more and more attractive to new users as well (proper ones that is). There is concern out there and it needs addressing "toute suite" and I am sure/or would hope that the mgt pick up on this ball and run with it in their quest to up the appeal and bring the good ship back on to more of an even keel.
You tell me B00 - I'm sure that's an easy one for the top management to answer.
you're in my top 50, B00, almost definitely.
"And the top 50 users are....?"

Well me an you, obviously, B00 ;)
ive no idea DT, i wasn't aware there was even a top list of users! I'm assuming, seeing as you mentioned it, that you know of it and who's in it?

(I do love jno and Chucky though xx)
I have been here since 2002 and i can attest to what BOO and Chuck said.....people (and Eds) come and go and the beat goes on. Throw your rattle, don't throw your rattle, flounce don't flounce, unflounce, the beat goes on.

as for the groundswell......you and who else?
Could make for an interesting AB competition...........
I can attest to what BOO, Chuck and jno said
no, it could only make for another of those "here are my friends" threads
You'll have work harder than that to extract my e-mail list out of me, woofgang!
I see this site a bit like my house. Everyone generally knows where they stand and the expectations which are implied rather than written down, but if I move the goal posts (eg junk food for tea on a school night, a rare loss of temper, etc) then everyone goes with the flow. Not arse kissing, just stating the bloody obvious.
that was tongue in cheek, sara.....
