Hello!

As you know, we're working on redesigning the site so that it works on every device - i.e. it works on mobile, tablet and your laptop/desktop PC.

We're also taking the opportunity to tidy up some stuff, like reducing the number of categories, swapping the sizes of adverts to more commonly used sizes (this should mean the ads get better).

To make sure everyone feels as consulted as possible, I'd like to show you where the designs are currently settled. If you have any good ideas for the layout, design, colours, fonts etc, please provide your feedback here.

What I would really like to know is, do you understand it, just by looking at it?

I'll post different versions of the homepage first, with a small description. You should be able to click the images to make them pop open in a new browser tab.

The thread will be closed while I sort out these images as answers, and will reopen shortly afterwards.

The answer pages are excellent.

I like that there is a link to Home and The Section. I would maybe use back arrows, and a back arrow to go to the previous page, without having to use the browser back. And maybe slightly larger than shown.

Oh, I can now see there are arrows. They were barely visible without enlarging.
Personally I like arrows pointing left to indicate going back, but I realise that is subjective.
Yes- perfect.
Ed, I'll agree to anything, as long as you get rid of most or all of the sub topics (see my recent unanswered question in "Site Suggestions")
Could we have an Edit button please?
Over all it looks good Ed, and eay to navigate. although the one negative is the red colour. Its an agressive colour and my first impression was that I had wandered over to a tabloid newspaper site. Equally you need to avoid blue. Stick with the mustard colour or if you want a change, make the red more of a wine colour. Hic.
I use the desktop version on a Galaxy S4 'phone and it's not a problem, the mobile version is mince!
I would like to see an edit button and a like button.
Where's the 'My profile'?
I hate change but will have to live with it.
Interesting point re the profile, I'd say yes to a 'like' button but no to an edit one.
If there was a "like", I think people would just use that instead of actually saying anything. Better for fb, imo.
Why does the menu cover the latest questions?
I have been out for the day and am just catching up. It all looks good really, I do not use my phone, or ipad or a tablet to log on. But if the new format encourages the younger web users to join AB and contribute it can only be a good thing. Some of the older members have adopted a mind set that AB is a secret clubby forum (I include myself in that reflection), and new "blood" can only be a good thing. Lol @ dt earlier, commenting on aog having a busy morning with all the posts.
Having said that, I will miss the mustard and wine colour scheme.
Perhaps Corby it may help to see the most recent ops without having to look in all the category lists? Maybe.
I only have a laptop, so the rest doesn't bother me. If we are losing the sub-divisions - on , say, Media - it could be a long plough through to 'The Archers' thread. However, I've only just learned to feel at home on here and I resist technological change automatically. Others seem to like it, so I'll have to learn to live with it.
How many folk use the desktop version rather than the mobile on their 'phones? I never use the mobile version, I can't see the topics on the left of the latest questions on the right and the questions look huge.
// although the one negative is the red colour. Its an agressive colour and my first impression was that I had wandered over to a tabloid newspaper site. //

The red is part of the existing Answerbank colour scheme since the very beginning. To me, there does seem to be less Red, and Mustard than before.
//The red is part of the existing Answerbank colour scheme//

No, it's a different red, too harsh, the present warmer red is better and would form some continuity with the past.
Khandro,
The colour might have been tweek very slightly, but I suspect not.

You are comparing two different colour systems.

This site uses hexidecimal values entered into the code to deliver the required colour. The screen grabs which the Ed has posted of the redesign are In RGB colour, like the colour in a jpg. The two systems give slightly different results.
