Received a marketing email from a 'sister company' of AB.

I haven't given permission for my email address to be used in this manner. And there appears to be no way [unless someone can direct me] to set or change email preferences, apart from Newsletter and subscription to questions.

How sneaky.

I wouldn't know if I had because I used an email address I've never used.
I haven’t :( (feels left out) Are you two on the AB facebook page?
nope..it's a gardening doodah
And me but you can unsubscribe from the email. All part of the ads on here but yes it is a bit sneaky, especially if we get loads more.
I don't want to unsubscribe, I want to win the new lawn mower.

Then the marketing email would have just gone to the different email address??? Or am I missing something?
Was it about lawnmowers?
Apparently I am going to be offeed a lawnmower. It'll only be of any use to me if it has a 'smooth out concrete/stone' setting...
oi ..you have the goats !! ah'll have the mower ta !
Question Author
Yes, lawnmowers.

I'm not on the FB group. Or even on FB.
Actually the email is from Answerbank.

This is a little advanced warning that we'll be dropping you an email on behalf our sister company Gardenlines
i had something pop up about gardening but it went before I could read it but it started mallyh.
I got one (I have a yard!), scrolled to the bottom and unsubscribed. Thought it was a bit cheeky.
Everybody calm again?

I'm not sure this is legal. From the UK government website

https://www.gov.uk/marketing-advertising-law/direct-marketing

'5. Direct marketing

You must check if customers want to be contacted by fax, phone, post or email, and give them the chance to object.

When you collect customer details, you must get their permission if you want to send them other offers or promotions.

You must also ask for their permission if you want to share their information with another organisation.'
it's a sister company of Gardenlines? That explains the gnomes, then.
Isn't there an unsubscribe option?
The new ladies in charge must be keen gardeners. :))
