A-H "I think it's reasonable that an element of human nature is involved in moderation - what one Mod may delete, another may allow - that's simply the nature of moderation. " I agree entirely, but please remember that this is a two-way mechanism and that the perpetrator may not have answered in a way that can be described as rude.....e,g the OP of this thread....

What on earth is wrong with suggesting that people use Google? It can save a lot of time. Google does not provide all the answers, though, hence the need for AB. Other posters with the relevant knowledge can provide instant information, thus saving the time and trouble of ploughing through masses of information on Google. There is a well-known poster on here who appears to be omniscient whilst in reality he just uses Google and relays the answer back. There used to be another poster, a few years back now, who would answer with a screen saying, 'Let me Google that for you. How difficult is that?' Now that IS rude.
Please see the fifth point in the AB Editor's response at 09:55 on this thread :

Some archive you have there, sunny-dave. Very commendable. ;o)

And he was a mod (not that I was bothered about ''Let me Google that for you'
Dave...unacceptable ...YES.
But "rude".....surely not.
Knew it wasn't in 'The Rules'. Definitely elastic.
He was a mod? well you learn something every day.
If we don't like or agree with the rules we can leave .!!
MarkRae wasn't a Mod.
He got suspended a couple of times...
If you're thinking of the same person as I am, then I don't think he was a mod. He was very sarcastic and self-opinionated though.
^ that's what I remember and he was often harsh (by today's standards) so was surprised. Clever bloke actually.
I wasn't going to name names but JTH has no compulsions in doing so.
Asquith...thank you for your input.
It is not that one doesn't like or agree with the rules, it is the interpretation of these rules that are often a cause for concern.
Having shown a few people how to use the internet, its my experience that a few folk are nervous about using search engines as they are afraid they may click on a dodgy site. Hence, they tend only to use sites they are familiar with. To be told to google it rather than try and answer makes them feel inadequate. Not every one has been using technology for years. I'm sure you meant no offence Mexican.
AND he was never seen in the same room as.....well....y'know.
Its a Q&A site, such drama :-)
by and large, any commercial website will take a dim view of people being told to go away and look at another website.
I don't think it was Mark Rae who initially came up with the ''Let me Google that for you' (of course I could be wrong)
Yes, MR was harsh, sarcastic and often a (insert word of choice) but ... so what!
I liked Markrae.......could banter and have fun without him having a hissy fit...... :-)
