Perhaps the right time to do a poll on how we would vote? Personally I dont think canvassing or csmpsigns will make any difference. We are all pretty sure of our intentions!
//The Lib Dems don’t want a second referendum: they want to cancel Article 50
One case where it does pay to listen to campaigners perhaps.//
But anyone with any interest already knows that. It was well known at least six months ago when they had their T-shirts printed for their debut in Brussels. It doesn't need a campaign to keep stating the same thing over and over again. This country will be going to the polls nationally for the fourth time in as many years. Since 2015 there will have been three General Elections and a referendum. Nothing has happened in that time. All that's occurred is that Parliament (two different ones and we're now being asked to elect a third) has prevaricated, procrastinated and generally failed miserably to implement the result of the referendum. The main reason for that is that 80% of them don't want to leave the EU and they have done all they can to prevent it, making it ever less likely. Politicians have been granted just about all the air time they could possibly need in those years. Just how much campaigning do they need to do to explain what they're going to do next?
My bad. As to who might vote for the Lib Dems given the fact they have pledged to cancel Article 50? There were 16M+ who voted to remain. Just saying:-/
Very true NJ. We are all tired of it. More campaigning will be a waste of time. Anyone who has any interest doesn't need it. And those who apathetic will remain apathetic.
Perhaps a poll should have that option HereIam! I would rather spoil the ballot slip than not vote at least they count the spoilt slips so it proves how you feel.
//I'd rather just not vote Nellie. Democracy died with the Brexit vote.//
It didn't die with the vote, HIA. It died when Parliamentarians decided they would do everything they could to ensure the decision was not implemented.
That would be dangerous Hopkirk. What worries me is that the young do not realise what a far left Labour Party would really mean, or that a far left party would mean the end of democracy and the beginning of something they could never begin to understand.
good point nellie, anyone under 50 would not have a clue what Labour is like, lefty teachers probably don't teach them about the damage they and their union buddies did last time they got in, in the 70s. (Noo Labour don't count, they were basically Tories).
I agree. They do not understand the realities of the effects of a full-on Labour Govt.. The 'Winter of discontent' was horrific. Can youngsters even imagine looking in the paper (or on screen if it works because they managed to recharge it) to discover when your electricity would be on during the next week - as we did? They honestly don't have a clue. It's terrifying that they have been so cosseted and in the event I don't know how they'd cope.
Corbyn and co. would be even worse, I think. If they got in, the very first thing I'd do next morning would be to go to my bank and demand my savings out of my savings account - in cash.
j. //when your electricity would be on during the next week - as we did? //
Nothing to do with the OP, but you put me back to memories of playing cards (poker) & drinking wine with friends listening to Country Joe & the Fish, by candlelight. When the power came back on there were loud shouts of, "Turn it off!"
Actually the "winter of discontent" was quite fun. It meant you had to plan your daily life according to the availability of electricity i.e. you had to be resourceful and innovative. What's wrong with that?
I need some more info. In previous years, our objective has been to dethrone Amber Rudd, but as she's just stood down (fallen on her sword as such) I want to see what promises the candidates are making for the local area before voting.
