Took my old boy for his tests this morning and found out that he has a massive growth in front of his heart which is inoperable.
It is this growth that is making him go off his food and not want to move very much.
My daughter down at Surrey Uni is heartbroken and wants to jump in her car and come home. I've said no to that.
Will know more when I pick him up shortly.
I hate 2011.

We lost our little guy four weeks ago after nearly 16 years of loving companionship.
Very difficult especially as we (as caring owners) need to take the responsibility of choosing when. In a way, it's the final good service we can do them.
Consider having the vet round to the house, it's a bit more expensive but allows them to pass away in the comfort of their home surroundings with less stress.

so sad for you - as everyone here is... Its the hardest thing in the world to do - but also the kindest a good and loving pet owner can do.
I guess something has to get them all in the end... be sure to know that he had a truly loving and wonderful home with you all and your family and was much much loved... He is a lucky boy to have such great owners!
good luck...

Just sitting here looking at him and now knowing what he has inside him, I can't let him endure it any longer.
My daughter is getting the train up from Surrey tomorrow morning and will be here at 13.10. We will all have the weekend together with him and then the decision will be made.
I'm crying as I type.

What a wonderful owner your dog has got - one who really cares about the dog over their own feelings - this is so heartwarming and I congratulate you on putting your dog first. So many people keep their animals going just for their own selfishness. It will be so difficult but you will know you are preventing him from getting to the stage where you are not sure whether he is actually suffering and as I always say, better a day too soon than a moment too late.
