quite a large dog, not in weight but size. Just lately when he goes in my kitchen ,where I have a wood floor. if he slips he cannot get up again. My husband and I put a mat under his front paws and hind paws so he can pull himself up with his front paws. He is ok in the garden or on carpet. Has anyone else had this problem with their dog.? Is there anything I can do.? At other times he can run ok.

Yes, my old labrador used to have this problem with our kitchen floor, and we put a mat down by where he had his food, and we put cardboard down through the kitchen so he could get to the garden without collapsing; you could get a long runner style mat instead of cardboard, which didn't look very attractive, but served its purpose.
A cheapish place to get rubber backed dirt trapper mats which might help. These go in the washing machine to clean if they get really manky, cold wash no spin.

Just get some cheap mats to put down and do it sooner rather than later as dogs can cause serious injury to themselves if their legs go off in different directions!
Any old thing will do or as has already been suggested some cardboard, though that in itself can slip anyway.
Do you have a carpet shop near you that sells off cuts?

Thankyou to you all. Yes I will get some more carpets to put down for him. Poor old chap. although I didnt think 12 was that old. mind you Amber was only 12 and died in her sleep bless her, We are taking Ben to the vets for a MOT on monday just to make sure nothing else is wrong with him. . I had exactly the same problem with my two older roughs, only solution was to buy carpet runners.

These larger dirt trapper mats are excellent value, they wont slip on the floor and are washable too.

Thankyou Jules, I have noted the internet address. Brenda
Splendidpets have a stand at most champ shows, depending on where you live you might be able to pick them up as they have cheap offers at the shows. Next one will be Driffield show at Wetherby racecourse next week.
Must admit, they have some good prices on that site....Dog help my credit card!

I just thought I would let you know what happened at the vets this morning with Ben. Vet said he has arthritis in his knees and hind legs. But everything else was fine. So he is now on inflammatory tablet once a day. That mat site is brill.! The prices are so good. Thankyou all again.
Oh good lb, nice to hear a happy ending:-)
Thank you for the update.
I give my bitch with arthritis and hip dysplasia a human grade Omega 3,6 and 9 oil, she can out run her 'brother' when she outs her mind to it.
