Hilarious visit to the Vet. Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Took beloved rough-haired JRT to the vet yesterday. The vet asked if she needed to muzzle him and I said yes. Immediately the soft muzzle went on he exploded up into the air from the examination table like a Gold Medal winning Olympian gymnast. He proceeded to do a magnificent display of somersaults, high above our heads, for what seemed forever, pawing at the muzzle at the same time, eventually landing on the floor. He shot around the floor bucking like a bronco, leaping about like a demented head banger and then somersaulted back up onto the table and stood stock still staring at me. The vet looked at me and said quietly, "And what did you say was wrong with him?"

We both collapsed with laughter. It was so funny, poor boy:-) Still chuckling today.

That's not funny, he must have been terrified.

That sounds awful for the dog. Not funny in the slightest I'm afraid.

Well I am a huge animal lover but I thought it was funny. :o/

Reminds me of the time I took a budgie to the vet. Took the cover off the cage and the wee budgie was spinning round and round on the perch. Vet said, "Are you sure you've brought the right budgie?"

We did have around 100 birds at that time, but I had indeed took the right one - he was obviously not as ill as first thought.

I couldn't help it, it was the way the vet said, "And what did you say was wrong with him?", as he had just demonstrated that he was pretty fit and he didn't look as if there was anything wrong with him at all. He has to have a muzzle on at the vet but he has never reacted this way before, he usually just paws at it as he tries to remove it. I was so shocked at his reaction; he might have to be sedated if this is how he's going to carry on.
I'll smack my own wrist and put a hair shirt on woofgang, but when the vet said what she said, and I think it was meant to be funny, it was funny and I defy anybody not to have laughed.

Sorry to take the serious line but I prefer to keep my animals stress free...just my opinion.

I used to get embarrassed when going to see the doctor with unwell child. He asked her how she was and she replied: "Very well thank you"

Don't we all like to keep our animals stress free dg. Do you think I would have let it happen if I had known what his reaction was going to be when the vet put the muzzle on him? As I said, he has never reacted like this before. I don't know why he did yesterday. I don't deliberately take him to the vet to get him stressed out. And to clarify, it was what the vet said that was funny, not the distressed dog. Now I'm bl00dy distressed.

Ooh Mrs C, thank goodness some of you can see the funny side, inferring that I don't like to keep my animals stress free Grrr.

He's OK thank you. He's got Kennel Cough aka Infectious Bronchitis but the vet said because I took him down there so promptly and we've caught it early, plus he's a healthy strong dog, he doesn't need any medication at the moment. Have to keep an eye on him for 10 days and if he gets any worse they'll send some antibiotics over. He has to rest, stay on the lead and keep calm and take some honey before he goes to bed. Oh, and mustn't use a collar, only his harness. He ain't gonna like any of that:-)

Your dog is a JRT. That is what they do! Ours used to pull us to cross the road to avoid walking past the vets.

ladybird, I would never have any other dog. Although I haven't had one now for a number of years, I still have JRT envy!

Oh what a shame tenrec. That's sad.
Every time I see one I have to smile, they're such busy little dogs, interested in everything and usually happy and very loyal. Don't turn away from a punch-up though. I now take older ones from rescues that get overlooked but they've still got plenty of life in them.

No dog could replace my gorgeous long haired GSD but daughter's 2 schnauzers and two fox terriers are getting close. She's on a mission to save all the dogs she can. Ladyb that made me smile he's a fiesty little one :-)

One of my old teachers from school bred a special JRT, the plumber terrier, he is the same guy that you have probably seen a few times on those out take tv shows, he is the guy with the ferret being interviewed by the bloke that used to present countdown. The ferret bites him and is hanging of the end of his fingers. Google plumber terrier.
