Sounds like madness to me. But then I'm not a doggy person. I know you can pay a lot for Greyhound pups but you might win a bit back.
I don't know what the going rates are these days but we paid £600 for Max twelve years ago and he was an ordinary long haired balck and gold.
Paddy, why do people pay so much when there's free dogs in the 'shelters'.
If the dog is from a reputable breeder with Kennel Club registration the that amount seems to be a fair rate.
I suppose you have done some research before deciding on this breed and have looked at a variety of breeders.
Totally endorse what Tilly has said. For that price I'd expect to see at least one of the parents, a full pedigree including past champions, all the documents and medical certified. There are a lot of rogue pet sellers out there.

Thanks for your answers. Yes Tilly have checked out numerous breeders and this one is KC assured. We had two GSD but sadly lost them both. I know we paid £650 and £700 for those two and that was 13 years ago. There are black and tans etc for around those prices available however we thought we would go to a kc reg breeder this time. She is microchipped has had her injections and comes with four weeks free insurance.

Thanks prudie our posted crossed there. They have a website which we have trawled over and over again and just need to make sure everything is ok before we go ahead and buy her.
Can you post a link to the website, jasmine? I'd love to have a look at a puppy liver GSD.
I wouldnt know about the going rate of GSD's, Lankeela will be able to help you with that one. But just because someone is an 'assured breeder' and has a website and has a website, it doesnt make them responsible breeders. First port of call if you dont know anyone is one of the Breed Clubs.

Tilly haven't got a clue how to post a link ! They website is Icemead kennels. Let me know your thought on it if you wouldn't mind .

Thanks Jules.
Gorgeous. It sounds a high price, but depends on breeding, popularity, rarity etc. And if it's worth it to you. We have had lots of GSDs in the past (when i lived with parents) but all rescued. I didn't even know you could get them in liver!
I had a look on here

I'm no expert but they look as if they are breeding family pets rather than going for breed standard dogs.
I read somewhere on there that there's a restriction on breeding from one of their dogs. I think that's encouraging. They are not allowing their dogs to become part of a puppy mill.
They have some lovely dogs. Wicken is beautiful. Is she the mother of the pup you're buying?

My GSD is long haired. It's hard work keeping her nicely groomed. It's a daily task. My next dog will be short haired!

Good luck with your visit today.
Let us kmnow how it goes.
They have a FB page as well. Lots of photos, dogs look happy and in good condition, and plenty of information on their website about health testing. Only thing I would be cautious of is that their are breeding colours that are highly undesirable, and as breeders should be breeding to improve the breed, and they arnt doing this by breeding liver...... see breed standard here

sorry my posts dont make sense this morning, I am full of a cold........that should say that 'they are' breeding colours that are highly undesirable.

Tilly is right, they are breeding family pets, and I always wonder why breeders do this other than for monetary gain.
Question Author
yes she is the mother Tilly. We have spoken to them a few times over the last week and they do not want her going to another breeder. We have no intention of breeding her so no problem there, Did you look on the facebook page ? Theres a short video of Reeva on there playing with other puppies.
They say they are making the 'undesirable, desirable.'

So pets, not championship winners.
Question Author
is that a bad or goof thing Tilly ?
Question Author
oh dear I meant good thing . I cant think straight today !!!
