My rescue dog was from my local dogs home - Warrington Animal Welfare and I visited her a couple of times before deciding to bring her home and it was then they told me she was from Spain. This didn't bother me in the slightest, she needed a home and I was able to give her one. Dogs from abroad, especially from places like Romania, Croatia and so on are treated far worse than stray dogs in this country and when placed in sanctuaries there it is the survival of the fittest as they are all lumped together, not placed in single kennels like they are here and the weaker ones struggle to survive. My own little dog was a Spanish street dog trying to survive from day to day all on her own and I have NO REGRETS whatsoever at taking her on and I would consider taking a foreign dog on again in a heartbeat. I have rescued all my dogs as my parents did before me and all of them, except my little Spanish girl now, were dogs from this country. A need is a need.
