Has anyone ever used a Cat Toilet???
( Looks like a pet carrier!! ) they have a flap on the front and a filter is supposed to take away the nasty smells. Are they any good, and do cats know how to use them? Argos sell them for about 12.00, but I have seen them online for about 30/ 35, any answers appreciated, Thanks.

Cats are odd animals - before I got mines I spent about 100 buying things for him - radiator hammock etc and he ignored the whole lot of them..
I think the idea of the top of the litter tray is to give them some privacy. Argos is as good as anywhere to buy one, don't pay too much.

I bought one for my catv as she had a habit of digging for ages, spreading litter everywhere and then pooped and wee'd over the edge onto the floor!!! She didn't like going in it at first so i took the flap off and now she loves it as she can look out. It is very private for her and it means everything isnt on show (she always seems to go in it when someone visits). Also i dont have to get the hoover out everyday to clean up after her
I have had these types of litter trays for my cats and they don't work any better than any other types of litter trays in the smell department. They are more private with the flap - but I took the flap off initially or taped it open until they got used to it. The only thing that will get rid of smells is regular cleaning every day. I also used a great product - it was Sherleys cat litter deodouriser - it is in a green packet with a little screw top in the corner. It is about 2.99 but definitely gets rid of all odours even if you have to leave your tray for a few days.
Are you talking about a litter box? That's what we call them in the US. They are like tubs that you put cat litter in and some of them have tops that have openings or flaps for kitty privacy.
If this is what you are talking about, this is all i use as my cats are indoor only cats. Mine use they boxes all the time and are very good about it. they go in dig around a bit and do their business and then cover it up with litter and then jump out. I clean them with a litter scoop and an empty plastic grocery/shopping bag about twice a day. I refill with fresh litter every few days and then empty the boxes out and wash and disinfect every couple of weeks or more. Some have filters on the top, but i dont think they do much, usually a good brand of odor causing litter works best.

I forgot to add that if you have male cats it is best to have the litter boxes with the tops as males tend to pee over the edge otherwise. I also put mats under the boxes so if litter is flung around i can just shake off the mat. Some cats are really diligent in their digging in the litter so lid/top or not litter still gets flung.
