Allergy sticky ears in dog

Hi there. My two year old Weimaraner GSP cross boy has being diagnosed will allergy problems. The main symptom is inflamed ears which then become dirty and sticky. We are working with the vet who is excellent but the steroid tablets which helped at first have stopped being effective at a dose which is acceptable in terms of side effects for the dog. The next stage is to try a topical steroid spray which we will start on monday. We have cleaned up his diet which has helped a lot but not solved the problem. We have also tried
Canaural drops (the thick yellow ones)
Thornit powder
We currently use ear cleaning solution made from boracic and lactic acid to clean his ears (at vets suggestion) plus the steroid tabs and evening primrose oil capsules, again at vet's suggestion.
has anyone else had experience of this and can you make any suggestions please?
He has bare, not hairy ear canals and is as good as gold about the twice daily cleaning and treatment.

pshaw, Sky man's just been round and installed another box as the last one crashed, taking about 80 hours of recorded programmes with it (mostly OH's).

The annoying thing is it's the second time in a year it's happened; we lost lots of stuff last time too.

I tell a lie, the reeeeally annoying thing is it's the second time in 13 months; so it was out of guarantee. Bah.

That's annoying Jno ..I'm wondering how we are going to get on with our new toy .We have Virgin and this new gizmo records stuff like that .Whole series etc if you are away .Not that we ever go away these days :)
I've left Mr S in charge of it ..I'm useless with all this sort of thing .

We have a samsung dvd recorder and hard disk, which I used at first for everything, could even record onto discs, but too much trouble now, I get it mostly off the internet now, as still cannot record one prog while watching another.

That's why we changed ours Neti .We couldn't record anything whilst watching
catch up or Virgin and Freeview is hit and miss round here as per usual in spite of now being digital.
