Allergy sticky ears in dog
Hi there. My two year old Weimaraner GSP cross boy has being diagnosed will allergy problems. The main symptom is inflamed ears which then become dirty and sticky. We are working with the vet who is excellent but the steroid tablets which helped at first have stopped being effective at a dose which is acceptable in terms of side effects for the dog. The next stage is to try a topical steroid spray which we will start on monday. We have cleaned up his diet which has helped a lot but not solved the problem. We have also tried
Canaural drops (the thick yellow ones)
Thornit powder
We currently use ear cleaning solution made from boracic and lactic acid to clean his ears (at vets suggestion) plus the steroid tabs and evening primrose oil capsules, again at vet's suggestion.
has anyone else had experience of this and can you make any suggestions please?
He has bare, not hairy ear canals and is as good as gold about the twice daily cleaning and treatment.
thanks

Turned out lovely here, very pleasant in the sun, still a bit fresh out of it. I had to schlepp along to the docs, I went as slowly as possible and my bp was still up, tut...back in a fortnight to check it again. Maybe I should buy a monitor of my own.
Neti looks more like she can't be assessored to me woofy....:o) :o)

I've got a BP monitor thingy Robinia ..but I'm not sure what I'm I'm looking at .
You clamp it around your wrist .It's a digital thing .
I have no idea what the ideal BP is .When I've felt a bit shaky or dizzy I use it but I have no idea if my BP was right or not .
I suppose it all depends on how much whisky I've drunk and how much Gldn Syrp I've glugged :)

Evening All. What another lovely day it turned out to be. The sun is still shining as it sinks slowing into the West. Poetic eh!!
That photo's good Neti. Don't put yourself down you look fine. I don't know whether there is a Zumba group round here anywhere. I think I might just be tempted. Even though I wasn't when I first heard about it. But since I don't get to R & R much nowadays I think it might be good.
That song is lovely Woofy even though i've never heard it before either. Was it Peter Skellern singing.
Last night Shaney was a close thing at first but UCL got left behind eventually didn't they, Which I was a bit sorry about but I'm looking forward to the final next Monday.
Tomorrow I have to go for my pre-op thing ready for next Monday. I'm a bit nervous but that's me all over. It's only a minor thing but I'm not one for being put to sleep. My friend who I'm seeing tomorrow lives near the hospital so I'm parking in her drive to save me parking charges.
Just having my tea then off to the 'crunch match' The Rams against Forest.
Please wish us luck unless your name's Robi of course....:o)
See later 'gater(s)

Jude you have all my sympathy. when my knee went wonky the first time a few years ago, the physio I saw, lovely girl said okay,no problem, you have private insurance, just go for a knee washout. Me "Hell no"
The bloke I sas this time has a loose body too and he doesn't fancy a knee washout either.

I am totally exhausted. What a fantastic night of cheering shouting and singing. And what an atmosphere. As you can gather from that little outburst we won. :0) :0)
Thanks for the good luck Shaney. I'm hoping everything will be ok for my op on Monday. Yes Neti it is the same op we were talking about. It's got a medical name but I don't know what it is.
Oight Oight Everybiddy. I'm not going to bed yet have to wind down a bit with some gentle music....

Shaney you must be courageous beyond belief...I couldn't do 2 GA's unless my life depended on it. Its a clear morning here so the boys have had a lovely tear around in the dark, cadged some of my digestive biscuit and are now asleep. they are so tired, they went to sleep before all the biscuits were finished.
